Saturday
I was working on article review for my South East Asia’s Politics and Governments class and I had to give it to my lecturer by Tuesday. I almost finished my review when suddenly I heard a song from outside my room. It was Adele’s Someone Like You on MTV Hits. I couldn’t ignore it, because it’s my favorite song. So, I put off my assignment and listened to the song nicely.
Recently, I’m listening to few artists, old and new. Adele, Il Divo, Michael Buble, Mumford and Sons, The Civil Wars, Bernhoft, Gotye, Joshua Radin and the fabulous, the major sensation, the unstoppable, the heart robber, Beyoncé Knowles. I know it’s kind of bit silly to recognize artist in that way, but I like it. I read an article about putting your favorite things in a list, a very short list. Guess what, the article showed in freshly pressed! So, according to that, I’d like to share my favorite things but only 4 of them (it’s not like Oprah’s Favorite Thing of course, ’cause I don’t give a car to a stranger who sits next to me). *Before I continue, things here are referred to singers.
At first, I thought she was just like an ordinary British female singer. Her first single taken from the album 21, Rolling In The Deep didn’t steal my attention at all. But thanks to Glee, when it was covered by the Glee Cast, I instantly in love with it. Then I absolutely overwhelmed by her songs. Rumour Has It, Set Fire To The Rain, Lovesong, Turning Table, and the saddest song of 2011, Someone Like You, they are just like super sweet candy to my ears. She won six grammys this year. From six nods, she got six of them. Hail British! 2011 is just for Adele. From what I’ve heard, she won’t be recording new songs due to her post throat surgery treatment. Well fellas, let’s just hope for the best to her.

Four gentlemen unite as one of the greatest quartet ever. The band based in UK, but none of them are originally from UK. Sebastien Izambard (France), Carlos Marin (Spain), Urs Buhler (Switzerland), and David Miller (USA) these four gentlemen were assembled together back in 2004 by the creator of Pop Idol, Simon Cowell. Just like what I experienced with Adele, at first I never really liked them. I was in junior high school then, and my taste of music wasn’t that high, if you know what I mean. In 2010, I heard a song from Il Divo, Solo Otravez (All By Myself) then suddenly I liked it. I started to listen their songs and surprisingly the songs moved me. What a power of a song! Until now, I don’t know how to describe their genre. Wikipedia says it is operatic pop, the guys say it is classical crossover; pop songs sing in operatic way or vice versa. Until now, the guys already have 6 albums, the latest one is Wicked Game (which I strongly recommended). If you guys looking for a whole new level of music experience, try to listen Il Divo guys!
Top Seven:

- The Power of Love (The Promise)

The Good Old-fashioned Guy from Canada. That’s how I picture him. Bublé became a pop sensation when his own interpretation of Home hit the worldwide chart in 2005. Since then, his career was surprisingly ascended. I don’t know much about this guy, from what I heard he loves his family in British Columbia, Canada. He received multiple award in Canada. His voice is so gently and soft. I never heard such that voice before I knew him. When he sings, he sings with his heart and soul. He’s kind of womanizer when he’s on stage, I think that makes him as women’s favorite jazz singer. Currently he’s married to Luisana Lopilato from Argentina. Bublé has 5 studio albums and me think those albums are all great! Right now I’m having a crush with his song, Hold On taken from the album Crazy Love.

- How Can You Mend A Broken Heart (Michael Bublé)
- Home (It’s Time)
- Hold On (Crazy Love)
- Dream (Call Me Irresponsible)

- Dream A Little Dream of Me (It’s Time)

She is the most renowned female R&B singer in the world. Her name is often associated with perfection. The queen of R&B, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, famously known as Beyoncé. I love her since I was in junior high school, I recall the first song that I heard is Crazy In Love, and it stuck for weeks. She really had my heart since that moment. From then, I simultaneously love everything that she does. Her dance, her voice and her life really feel awesome to me. B was the core member of female group Destiny’s Child, but the group broke up in 2001 and later B made her debut album Dangerously In Love in 2002 which was a breakthrough album for her career. She’s married to Jay-Z, producer and singer, in 2008. She starred the movie Dreamgirl in 2006. I personally think it was not her good performance. But still it’s a good movie. Her voice is absolutely the best for R&B music genre. It is powerful, deep, soulful and yet captiviting. For some people she is a fashion icon. For me she is The Queen.
Now, she’s a mother to a sweet baby, Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé is a true star, she is a determined artist. She seek nothing but perfection. She demand perfection on every thing she’s on, that what makes her absolutely fantastic.
